Prince Harry’s ally criticized King Charles as a “petty monarch” for barring Harry from Queen Elizabeth’s funeral after renouncing his royal duties and leaving the UK.

One of Prince Harry’s friends has hit out at King Charles for making “really bad decisions” on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex amid the ongoing royal feud.

The ally of the King’s youngest son slammed Charles’s handling of Harry and Meghan’s exclusion from an important briefing in the lead-up to the late Queen’s funeral.

The couple were initially led to believe they would be joining senior royals at Buckingham Palace on the eve of the funeral, however, it was decided that only working members of the monarchy could attend.

The Duchess of Sussex has not returned to the UK since she attended Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022.

Harry’s friend told the Sunday Times: “The King made some really bad decisions — it was conveyed that he didn’t want them there.

“For f***’s sake, this was a global reception for his grandmother, and as her grandson, he should have been there.

“There was a funeral briefing for the whole family at the palace just before the reception, which would have meant Harry and Meghan going to the briefing then having to leave the palace as all the guests were arriving and other family members were staying.

“So in the end, they didn’t go. The briefing notes didn’t arrive [via email] for them until around 11pm.”

Prince Harry and his father have had a strained relationship over the last few years after the Sussexes made several public attacks on senior royals.

The Duke of Sussex last saw his father in February 2024 when he rushed to the UK following the monarch’s cancer diagnosis.

Harry has only travelled to the UK twice this year, partly due to his belief that he does not have the required level of security provided when he returns to the country of his birth.

King Charles is refusing to get involved in Harry’s battle with the Home Office over his level of security in the UK.

A source close to the King said: “His Majesty’s son is suing His Majesty’s government, and that is very tricky for the King.

“If they were to meet, there is a worry that son would lobby father because of the mistaken belief that the King has control over his security.

“For him not to have accepted the judgment of His Majesty’s government and courts is frustrating.”
