Prince Harry is said to have texted his brother after learning his grandmother’s health had “taken a turn”, but Prince William is said to have ignored him.

Prince Harry texted his brother Prince William in the Queen’s final days but never received a response from his sibling, a royal author has claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were in London when the-then Prince Charles rang his youngest son to break the news that Queen Elizabeth II was unwell. 

Harry however almost ignored the call, which came in from an unknown number.

Royal author Craig Brown says Harry and Meghan were in London at the time for an award ceremony. In Voyage Around the Queen, Brown says Harry’s father told him “Granny’s health has taken a turn”.

At which point Harry texted William to ask if he and Princess Kate are heading to Balmoral to be with the Queen. Brown writes: “There is no response.”

It was an exchange that Harry also recounted in his memoir Spare. Harry wrote: “I immediately texted Willy to ask whether he and Kate were flying up. If so, when? And how? No response. Meg and I looked at flight options.”

According to Brown, King Charles asked Harry not to take Meghan to Balmoral, claiming he “did not want too many people” around the Queen. After he explained Kate would remain in London, Harry is said to have responded: “Then that’s all you needed to say.”

Prince William, Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, and Prince Andrew are all said to have left RAF Northolt in a jet at 2.39pm on September 8, 2022. While Harry managed to charter a Cessna jet from Luton Airport.

Harry’s jet is believed to have been approaching Aberdeen Airport at 6.40pm when he received a text from Meghan saying ‘call me the moment you get this’. However, Brown reports, it was too late and he had seen the devastating news of his grandmother’s death on BBC News.

In an historic memo, it was later revealed the Queen “slipped away” and that her last moments were “painless”. She was 96 years old when she died.

The memo from Sir Edward Young, the Queen’s most senior member of staff, now sits in the Royal Archives. It reads: “Dougie [Glass] in at 3.25. Very peaceful. In her sleep. Slipped away. Old age. Death has to be registered in Scotland. Agree 3.10pm. She wouldn’t have been aware of anything. No pain.”

Dr Douglass Glass, who had worked for the Royal Family for 30 years, signed the Queen’s death certificate.
